BIRA was created about 7 years ago, to breed quality, gentle Tonkinese cats as a hobby. Jodi breeds Tonkinese on a small scale as a means of helping families to acquire quality, child-friendly pets.
Jodi Spice is an animal lover and has really good facilities, space and time to devote to raising quality kittens.
These cats are really members of the family and Jodi goes to great lengths to provide the best quality care, food variety, veterinarian services and a socialised environment for the cats and their kittens. Jodi has school age children who help her in caring for her cats, and providing the handling which is so essential to create loving and affectionate pets.
Due to this approach, Bira Cattery only produces a small number of kitten offspring each year. Most of the litters are sold through waiting lists, and referrals from previous owners. When litters come along, inspections and selections can be arranged and a deposit paid to reserve your choice, pending nurturing of the kittens by their mothers, gaining sufficient maturity, microchipping and vet checking to allow them to go to new homes at the right time.
Bira Cattery has a small number of active queens and toms, and is able to provide a variety of colours and sex choices to those who are patient, although all kittens are beautiful examples of the Tonkinese breed. Please browse this website to see brief descriptions and pictures of the BIRA family.
A lot has been written about the virtues of the Siamese and Burmese breed origins of the Tonkinese, combining the best of appearance and behaviour of these two cat lines. This website contains a few links to authors and sites describing the breed. Jodi loves them and so will you.
